FIRST DANCE

Apr 10, 2018 · 2 min read

“You promised me a dance,” I said.

Hands outstretched.

Promises are what you keep,

and so, my gamble paid off.

My hands now in yours.

It is for moments like these,

That delayed departures,

and early arrivals

are ever so appreciated.

Your hands didn’t make their presence felt,

And well…

The sign of a true thief is in leaving no sign,

but in letting you know they were there.

And God, the things I felt.

A couple of hours,

In numerous exchanges between our lips,

And I succumbed to the little

S E P A R A T I O N

From your touch.

The time I was trying to elude,

Had now switched sides,

The romantic song soothing the atmosphere all this while.

ALL this, so you and I,

Could have, what would be,

Our First Dance.

I could barely meet your eye,

And the time I did,

My cheeks would turn inevitably,

Red.

Clutching and digging my fingers in your shoulders,

Through the entire length of the dance.

Although apprehensive,

I did get on your feet swaying to the music,

Not to forget — the embrace, when I got the chance.

The first and only 6 minutes of my life I cannot account for.

Amidst a lot of first from that day,

In that first dance

There was another first,

That might have almost not happened.

Had I not asked.

The first,

Of that feeling,

Of -

Being together.

And if not for your spank to reality, That first dance, Could have been my, Forever.
